Eastern CT News · Our approach
What we collect
Submission forms store the details you send privately, along with a submission identifier and timestamp. Newsletter subscriptions store your email, selected towns, daily-digest and breaking-alert preferences, confirmation status, and delivery records used to prevent duplicate emails. If you enable push notifications, we store a private device subscription endpoint and delivery status. You can turn push off from the Install the app page; expired subscriptions are removed after the push service reports expiry. Your preferred town may be saved on your device. If you choose Use my location, your browser asks permission and matches your coordinates to a town on your device. We do not save those coordinates. To limit spam, submissions use a salted, temporary network identifier and request count; the raw IP address is not stored by the application. These counters expire within two hours.
How we use it
We use submissions to verify tips, corrections, events, scores, business listings and memorial notices. Confirmed subscribers receive their selected daily digest at 6 AM Eastern and optional breaking-news alerts. We do not publish private contact information in stories.
Contact and removal requests
Use the unsubscribe/preferences link in any email to stop delivery or change towns. The correction form is also available for removal requests or questions. Do not submit sensitive personal documents.
