Update, October 14 — Stop & Shop’s own website says its website and app are unavailable and that unfulfilled orders placed through those services will be refunded. The notice was checked this morning; it does not specify when service will resume or give a refund-processing timetable.

The retailer says stores, pharmacies and fuel stations remain open during normal business hours. Those physical operations are separate from the online ordering interruption. Customers planning to use the app or website should check the current notice rather than assume an order can be placed or fulfilled.

Ahold Delhaize, Stop & Shop’s parent, disclosed a cybersecurity incident October 12 and said October 13 that it was beginning a controlled restart of certain systems. Its message, marked updated October 14, says precautionary shutdowns affected customers, employees and partners differently across its brands.

The parent company said it was working with outside cybersecurity specialists and appropriate authorities. It said it had no evidence at that time that customer, employee or partner data had been taken. That is an interim company assessment, not a final determination that no data was exposed.

WFSB reported that, as of 7 a.m. October 14, Stop & Shop did not believe customer payment information or pharmacy systems were compromised. This claim is attributed to the retailer through the station; it does not independently establish the investigation’s outcome.

Reuters reported an outage notice on Stop & Shop’s website October 12, before the parent company announced its controlled restart. Today’s retailer notice shows that recovery of some parent-company systems is not confirmation that online ordering has returned.
