EAST HAMPTON — Crews are checking wiring following a possible power surge Tuesday night, October 13, according to WFSB's updated reporting. It cites Eversource's early Wednesday estimate of 41 potentially affected homes, not a live outage or damage count.

The station cites Town Manager David Cox on at least 19 calls to 911 about smoke. It reports visits by utility and fire crews and inspections before restoration because damaged circuits could pose a fire risk. Cox gave no restoration time and described at least one home needing substantial electrical work.

WFSB says homeowners may arrange electrical repairs and file a utility claim. This is not a guarantee of reimbursement or a determination that every property needs identical repairs.

WTIC's October 14 report separately attributes to Cox advice to contact a homeowner's insurer, obtain an electrician, complete repairs and seek Eversource claims review. Only its accessible published excerpt could be read; the complete page was unavailable.

WFSB reports a request to keep generators off until wiring checks finish. Obtain current property-specific instructions from the utility or town; this account is not clearance to reconnect.

East Hampton is outside the newsroom's three-county local area. This is Connecticut regional coverage, not a warning of an Eastern CT outage. The underlying utility explanation has not been independently reviewed.
