LEBANON — Lyman Memorial High School’s welding pathway has moved beyond its summer launch preparations: Lebanon Public Schools’ October 2026 superintendent update identifies current participants and describes their role in a September 29 ribbon-cutting.
According to the district, welding-pathway students and student ambassadors welcomed visitors and led tours during the celebration. Families, school board members and representatives of General Dynamics Electric Boat, Collins & Jewell, the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board and UConn attended. The district also reported receiving a Connecticut General Assembly citation recognizing its career-training work.
The ceremony took place more than two weeks before this report; it is not a new event occurring October 15. Its significance is the district’s confirmation that students are now participating, rather than only a plan to introduce a program.
WFSB’s August 10 reporting described new welding stations and two virtual-reality welding sets, with funding from Electric Boat, the UConn Navy Coalition and a state grant. The virtual equipment was intended to let students practice before using live welding equipment. That report placed welding alongside existing nursing and agriculture pathways at the school.
For Lebanon students considering manufacturing or the trades, the pathway adds a school-based option for exploring the work. Participation should not be confused with a guaranteed job, apprenticeship or industry credential: the October update does not establish those outcomes or provide an enrollment total.
Students and families can use Lyman Memorial’s official school website to contact the school about course access and counseling. Current prerequisites, available places and any credential arrangements should be confirmed with the school before making enrollment plans.
The account of the September ceremony and current participation comes from the district. WFSB independently reported the summer preparations; it is not separate confirmation of the later ceremony.
