NORWICH — Norwich Public Utilities lists new rates for bills rendered after November 1, 2026: natural gas up 2.8%, electricity 3.3%, water 5.1% and wastewater 15.1%.

The changes were approved at the utility board’s August 2026 meeting as part of a three-year schedule, according to NPU’s September 3 announcement. This is advance coverage of that earlier decision, not an October 13 rate vote.

NPU attributes the changes to infrastructure investment, debt service, regulatory costs and higher materials, labor and operating expenses. Its modernization work spans all four systems.

The utility estimates that a typical customer receiving all four services would see an approximately 5.92% total increase, or $26.84 a month. That is NPU’s example, not a universal bill estimate: consumption and the mix of services change the impact. NPU says most customers receive two or three services.

The source identifies future rate-effective dates in 2027 and 2028 but does not provide those years’ percentage increases in this announcement. Residents seeking an explanation of their own bills can contact NPU customer service at 860-887-2555.
