SPRAGUE — The town’s October announcement lists a Free Dump Day for Saturday, October 17, but residents must already have a transfer-station permit: none will be issued that day.
The First Selectman’s October column connects the disposal opportunity with a reminder that Sprague does not collect bulky waste from roadsides. Furniture and household debris should not be left on sidewalks or along the road; the column warns that accumulated items on properties can lead to blight-enforcement notices.
The municipal transfer-station page identifies the site as 112 Bushnell Hollow Road, on Route 138, and lists regular Saturday hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents can call 860-822-6714 to confirm Saturday’s arrangements and whether a particular item is accepted.
The station’s general rules distinguish accepted waste from prohibited materials. Its list excludes items including gasoline, kerosene, asbestos and several hazardous chemical products. A free disposal day is not confirmation that prohibited materials will be accepted. The town directs hazardous-waste questions to the regional recycling authority.
Some materials, including mattresses and electronics, are already listed as free under the station’s regular rules. Other bulky loads ordinarily carry charges based on size. Those distinctions matter when deciding what to bring; the October column does not spell out every special-day fee exception.
The same October notice says winter hours will begin November 6: Mondays 10 a.m.–2 p.m., Wednesdays 2–6 p.m., and Saturdays 8 a.m.–4 p.m. That announced change should not be confused with this Saturday’s disposal opportunity.
