WILLINGTON — A resident suffered serious injuries after a late-night fire at Willington Woods senior housing on October 9, according to a statement from Willington Fire Department No. 1.
Willington Hill, Willington Fire Department No. 1 and mutual-aid crews were dispatched around 11:23 p.m. While responding, they were told someone might be trapped. The department says crews arrived to find a small fire already out and residual smoke on the second floor.
One resident was transported by LifeStar helicopter, and multiple other residents were taken to local hospitals. The official statement does not give individual diagnoses or a subsequent condition update.
Fire officials said the building remained occupiable. The Willington Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause; the statement does not announce a confirmed cause.
The department thanked Mansfield, University of Connecticut and Ashford fire departments, Stafford Ambulance Association, Tolland Fire Department, Coventry EMS, Windham Hospital Paramedics and Hartford HealthCare LifeStar for mutual aid. Its Facebook statement was posted October 10 and describes the previous night’s response.
